Insight Chips delivers first system in Japan!

The lucky new owners of a flow system from Insight Chips are Prof. Yuki Kimura and Dr. Tomoya Yamazaki from the Institute of Low Temperature Science at the Hokkaido University of Science in Sapporo, Japan.

Attached are some of the images from our first session together, where we grew CaCO3 crystals inside the chip by mixing together 6 mM CaCl2 and 6mM Na2CO3 while the holder was inserted into the TEM.

The first two CaCO3 images are of the same chip, and the last two images are of another, different chip.

In the first chip, the liquid thicknesses are <5 nm and 60 nm, both in one channel! SiN membranes are 17 nm.

In the second chip, the liquid thickness is 150 nm with SiN membranes 19 nm.

We did an app-note of this elegant mixing experiment recently, check it out here.

Finally, a big Thank You to Yuki-san and Tomoya-san, for their remarkable friendliness and hospitality.

May you have great success with your new equipment!
